Recipe: Wonton Sweet and Sour Sauce

As I told in the post Homemade Five-spice Powder, I prepared a special romantic dinner with chinese dishes for both Valentine's Day and Chinese New Year.
I cooked stuffed wonton, spring rolls, fried sesame croutons, ginger soup, cantonese rice, five spices omelette, pechinese spare ribs and two sauces.

Wonton with Sweet and Sour SauceThis is one of them: the sweet and sour sauce for steamed wonton, spring rolls and other chinese fried starters.


Sweet and Sour Sauce

Sweet and Sour Sauce


Ingredients
2 tbsp ketchup
2 tbsp soya sauce
1 tbsp apple vinegar
1 tbsp cornstarch
30ml water

Directions
Dissolve the cornstarch into the water, then add the ketchup, soya sauce and apple vinegar.
Put in a small pan and cook over low heat, stirring until it thickens.
Remove from heat and serve at room temperature.

Yummy wontons! They look like they came out of Chinatown!
In regards to bulgur, I would love more info. It comes in bleached and unbleached (I think unbleached is better) also , what did you do with it? Usually, it is mixed with meat to make kibbeh. It also comes in several sizes; fine and coarse ranging from #1 ti #4. The coarse one is to make pilaf type dishes and it is heavenly, if cooked properly. I have a lot of recipes with bulgur in my blog because it is an essential grain in lebanese cuisine.

mmm and i think this sauce can be used for Sweet & Sour spare ribs, or fish or chicken wth pineapple and green peppers like they do in HK alooot, i will try it ~

@radha: I used this sauce on the spare ribs and it was delicioys, I will try chicken with pineapple and green peppers too!
